I'm almost done with the tabs --> spaces conversion, one question:

What about libavcodec/liba52/?

IIUC this is an imported library, so applying cosmetic changes to it
may not be desirable.  Then again it depends on whether there is any
interest in updating some day or not.  In any case the changes can be
easily masked with 'diff -E' or 'diff -w'.
