Thank you for your response. 

Is gcc 4 needed? Currently we are already using the latest stock gcc
compiler which is in the 3.4 tree. With Redhat backporting policy,
gcc-3.4.6-3 means the base code is 3.4.6 upon which there have been 3
revisions. 3.4.6 seems the newest version in the 3.4 tree even on
gcc.gnu.org. Thus is the method implemented only in gcc4 ?
