well, first, i didnt reject it, though i agree with whoever did, that it
should be rejected, for completness i copied your message below
iam also cc-ing ffmpeg-dev
note to whoever rejected that mail, please always include a reason for
rejected mails, getting a simple "No reason given" is only doing one
thing and thats to make everyone angry

Subject: stand-alone ffmpeg for FreeBSD port
Dear ffmpeg and mplayer developers!
As you are well aware, the ffmpeg code is used by numerous multimedia
projects.
Many of them are ported to FreeBSD (there
exists /usr/ports/multimedia/PROJECT/) -- including, of course, mplayer
itself.
Currently each port builds its own version of ffmpeg, which wastes not only
the CPU time, diskspace, and bandwidth, but also the development/porting
effort.
It would be very nice, if the common ffmpeg part could have a port of its own,
with the rest of the ports simply linking with the separately ported
libavcodec, etc.
Interestingly, there already exist ports multimedia/ffmpeg and
multimedia/ffmpeg-devel (http://freshports.org/multimedia/ffmpeg-devel).
Unfortunately, they are rather obsolete by now, which is understandable,
because there are no "official" source tar-balls in existence.
The text at http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu/download.html does a good job driving
home the opinion, that official releases are for wussies, and to better
illustrate the point, it sends such wussies to a SourceForge page, which does
not exist...
Even if a wussie is particularly adept, and manages to find the
ffmpeg.sourceforge.net, there are no files to download from there anyway...
Now, I understand, that the developers hate to be bothered with "releases".
Unfortunately, the only alternative is for various projects to bundle their
own versions of the software, which leads to the above-mentioned waste -- a
porter's nightmare.
Could the situation be changed, please? Thank you very much!

now to your mail, who do you think you are? if you want a release then
YOU can make one, we will gladly provide help/svn branch/... if needed and
your release is of reasonable quality (=security fixes from svn backported
quickly at absolute minimum)
now to the complaint about the hiding of the last release, it contains some
security issues, amongth other things noone who has a brain would want to
use it
furthermore, if some maintainers of some distribution choose to maintain
ffmpeg independantly in several of their projects thats their decission
not ours, they can maintain a single ffmpeg package and link to that
using static or shared libs its all outside our control ...
and last, you should be subscribed to ffmpeg-dev and ffmpeg-svnlog if you
want to volunteer to work on some ffmpeg release or if you want to port
ffmpeg itself or as part of another project, not being subscribed will
cause you to be unaware of newly found security issues and i would strongly
urge everyone to stay away from packages from people who dont even subscribe
to the dev&cvs/svnlog mailinglits of the respective upstream project

In the past you could go to a library and read, borrow or copy any book
Today you'd get arrested for mere telling someone where the library is
