Also, could you be more consistent with variable names?  In
decodeChannelSoundUnit codingMode refers to joint stereo, but in
decodeSpectrum, it refers to VLC codes.  In decodeTonalComponents,
the same thing is called coding_mode, and in readQuantSpectralCoeffs
it's codingFlag.  I'm having a hard time following this.
