Are you sure it's hanging and not just requiring a lot of time? iirc I 
thought at first that it had hung too, but it just takes some time to 
run, it would seem:

real    1m6.182s
user    0m27.503s
sys     0m31.847s

For running ffmpeg's ./configure on a Sun Blade 150, UltraSparc IIe 
650Mhz.

iirc it felt like even longer yesterday. Hot in disk cache still today 
maybe, or just subjective sensors acting up ;-)
