These changes are actually cosmetical. They remove an unused variable 
(c_stride) and rename another one (s/y_stride/stride/). But I agree that 
if the code wasn't already somewhat made with the assumption that 
c_stride==y_stride the changes wouldn't be just cosmetical. My bad...
