There are around 10 other occurrences of that exact phrasing in ffmpeg,
and they seem to be the only one available.

Meanwhile, I have discovered I left some cruft (START/STOP_TIMER), so
I'll wait for Diego's opinion before submitting a new patch without this
cruft.

Nice. If you tested with mplayer, could you please see how it compares
(if possible) against the win32 dll?
