On OSX, I use MisFox [1], where I add a new mimetype for ".patch" files,
mimetype text/plain. That is sufficient for Firefox to not screw up. For
Linux, you use freedesktop's xdgutils or whatever sugar UI your desktop
ships for it. For windows, you buy a hammer and smash either your computer
or your head.
