One more note about your header files: You are using illegal
identifiers.  Something like

#ifndef _COMMON_TYPES_H_
#define _COMMON_TYPES_H_

should be

#ifndef COMMON_TYPES_H
#define COMMON_TYPES_H

Identifiers starting with __ or _ and a capital letter are reserved for
the system.
