I sympathize with the idea of also (but not only) installing versioned 
lib files. You have a point there.

Patches to fix MinGW installation are welcome. They must be *clean*, 
though. If you could take all the effort you're wasting with this thread 
and use it to find a clean solution and pass through the review process, 
I'd really appreciate it.
