I think "id" is definitively the more correct name, is used in the id
Software website and it even shows up on the Doom videogame cover back
in 1993, but it is often written also as "Id" and with less frequency
as "ID" as you can find out with a google lookout, so I'd say to stick
with "id" consistently.
