I prefer "utilities" over "routines", both because I like to suggest
in the description what the "util" part of "libavutil" comes from, and
also as a stylistic artifice for avoiding to repeat two times the word
"routines" (I use it in the expression "mathematics routines").

Fixed checking the corresponding web site.

"Optimised" is the British variant, check for example:
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/optimise
while FFmpeg documentation tryies hard to prefer the North-American
form, so for consistency I'd go for the latter.
I also cutted away the lavfi description, as suggested by Diego, but
I'm not sure it's a good idea, afterall it is there in SVN although
only partially integrated so the user may say "WTF is this?".
Regards.
