[FFmpeg-devel] File concat protocol?

I've come across a patch from a couple of years ago:

But I don't see any of this code in the tree at the moment. I've been  
looking for a general way to concatenate mp4 (and other) files. The  
only reasonable way I've found is to convert to mpeg, cat the files  
and then encode the result in mp4. This concat protocol (or something  
equivalent) seems like the perfect solution.

Did this patch make it into ffmpeg in some other form? Or is there  
another way to do it that doesn't require a double encoding?
