I'm working on the FFmpeg part right now...

Two issues:
1) You are not installing the libs and headers with correct permissions,
they should not be executable.
2) It fails to link for me on an Etch system when I run make from the
top level, but not when I run make from the subdirectories. If you
need more details, I can provide them later.
