lavf decodes that avi just fine, the last timestamp is quite valid and not -1,
iirc the irc chat, it is the packed b-frame and reordered opaque handling that
yields -1 in the end somehow, but that is not only lavf/lavc code but also
whatever wrapper code Jason is using.
