There are two reasons I didn't go with the buffer 'unescaping' route:

1. Unsynchronisation is specific to id3v2, I don't think adding this
code to avio is such a good idea.
2. avio functions are used everywhere, I didn't feel comfortable modifying them.

Let me know if you insist on doing this, I'll give it a try.
