And note here iam not opposed to your implementation if you can explain how
the img2 feature set could be implemented on top of it. But i feel uneasy
without knowing if we are moving toward a dead end here

Its not that you shouldnt use gotos but rather that you should write
readable code and code with gotos often but not always is less readable
