Both debian and ubuntu packages are done by Reinhard Tartler & co. A while 
ago I tried pointing out to debian's multimedia maintainers that his views 
on ffmpeg/libav are partial and that they should not just switch to the 
fork, but they trusted his judgement and left it at that.
