Thanks. I believe the patch is fine in principle, but if it is indeed no
longer useful due to reorganisation of the other patches, then maybe it is
better to postpone it.

I am not sure what this is, but it looks like ASCII-art scissors: note that
it would have gone in the commit message. The format of git mail patches is:
header, rest of commit message, three dashes to separate, extra comments
that are only in the mail, actual patch. This is important because a mail
like that can be directly applied to a repository, author, commit message
and all.

This is the extra comments section, git put in it interesting statistics,
you can add your own comments here if you need.
