Just one thing I can't get over wondering...
Could you explain why the default setting matters?
Almost everyone will need special settings anyway (like
--enable-gpl), to whom is adding another one a issue?
In the reverse, does it not make things more confusing to
have two libraries that do the same thing with no difference
visible to the user? (One enabled by default and one disabled
by default is a difference at least),
If it's about distributions, shouldn't they just put it into
a separate package and depend on that (only) for the programs
that use it?
Your points would be correct and justified if you argued whether
we should have lavr at all, but to me the only argument for making
it the default I can find is: "Some people will no longer have to
manually enable it in configure."
