I doubt anyone actually reads this. It's a wall of text containing
potentially confusing information such as SVN usage as mentioned by wm4.

Anyway, we also have the quite verbose http://ffmpeg.org/developer.html
where all relevant points do or should live instead of relying on
someone else's link, and I believe developer includes enough guidelines
to exclude the need for users to refer to MPlayer's guidelines.

I'd be fine with changing the link from git-howto to developer.html, or
adding both, if people think that makes more sense.
