The changes should be applied because they are the RIGHT behaviour, as I
explained in this mail:

The second patch gives a 10-second solutions that will fix ALL trashed ttys,
for FFmpeg and every other program on the system.
Furthermore, the third patch ensures that the particular case that this
absurd heuristic fixed does not happen anyway.
