I just want someone of you guys to take a look at what I've done. You know Git much better than me, and you can create a pull request it looks decent enough. I'm not going to participate a lot in this in the future, but I wanted to correct these things, since they have been overlooked for such a long time.

What's messy?
That's just the way it works here. It may be a bit more tedious for
you, but makes life for everyone else (testers, reviewers, committers)
much more easy. Complex projects need more elaborate flows.
And even in any other serious project, diffs directly from within the
leaf source directory are frowned upon. Create the diff from one level
up from the top (so that it applies from the top level within the tree
with "patch -p1"). Everything else needs too much contemplation.
I can't comment on the rest.
