This change broke three fate tests, mapchan-silent-mono, 
mapchan-6ch-extract-2-downmix-mono and mapchan-6ch-extract-2. Is it 
behaving as intended - then update the test references. If not, check 
what's going on.

Please do run fate before pushing changes.
