You are absolutely right on this, but you need to push this to its
logical conclusion: it is not allowed to ignore somebody in a democracy,
you can decide to ignore them because you are the leader of this
project.

And as leader of this project, it is your prerogative to decide whether
to accept this donation or not. You have taken the comments of the
community into consideration, you have made a decision and enacted it.
It is as it should be. Do not apologize.
