[MEncoder-users] encoding quality problem

Dear all,
I'm trying to encode via lavc a mpeg1 stream.
The problem is this:
If I play (with mplayer) the mpeg1 stream with spp filter option activated the
quality of video is better.
If I encode (with mencoder) that mpeg1 stream (via lavc)  with spp filter (or pp
filter) the quality of encoded divx video is like the original (i.e. poor).

Could anyone help me?

ps: other filters like "scale" works fine.
