[MEncoder-users] mpegopts vaspect vs. lavcopts apsect

What is the difference between -mpegopts vaspect and -lavcopts aspect.   
Which of the two (or both) do I use for encoding Mpeg-2 compliant 
DVDs???  I've seen alot of examples that use only lavcopts, but 
according to the man page, it seems like the mpegopts would be a better 
choice seeing as other players don't necessarily follow lavcopts 
aspect.  Am I right?  Do I use both?
