Seriously, I do not agree. Interlacing may be a trick, but it is certainly a
clever way to render motion smoothness (very important for sports for
example) within limited bandwidth, which was the case when interlacing was
introduced. What alternative to interlacing would you have proposed fifty
years ago ?
Even now, until at least 50 fps is not the standard temporal resolution for
progressive capture, interlacing will be used. My old xl1 dv cam supports
progressive capture, but this mode has always been useless for the kind of
footage I'm intererested in: 25 fps is just too slow.
