Actually, the essence of that thread was that I had no idea what I was
doing, and I was hoping Michael would shed some light on the subject. :)
It's evident that lmin and lmax do things differently from vqvin and
vqmax, but I can't tell (without exhaustive testing) what exactly is
going on.
As far as quality improvements go, I can tentatively recommend mv0
and/or cbp. I can't actually notice any visual quality improvement (I'm
biased and I can't make anybody around here sit still long enough for a
double-blind test); however, the two new options often increase PSNR
slightly, and that's probably a Good Thing. I want to test a couple more
sources, and then I'll post my results on -users.
