It is enabled via -vo gl:scaled-osd. It is not really "needed", but it
looks more like the OSD of other vos, and some people seem to like it
better (IIRC because it does not place the subtitles in the black
border - of course that could be fixed differently...). It also is
faster for very high screen resolutions, rendering the font characters
at higher resolutions is considerably slower and uploading the textures
takes more time, too.
But mostly it is there because I like options I guess ;-)
