-std=c99 can not be easily used for the reasons I already gave before
you posted in this thread at all.

As I already said changing from gnu89 to gnu99 does not make it any more
a "GNU mode" than it already is. If the effect of commandline options
for some reason unexpectedly changes in some future version of GCC the
options MPlayer sets can be changed easily enough.

If you have no better arguments than that GCC options might change in
the future (which even if it happens can be handled easily) or that you
find any occurrence of the string "gnu" aesthetically unpleasing
whatever its practical effect is then please shut up already.
