I know it is not particularly nice, but I do not want to drop support
for the old version because
a) I think it works well enough for a lot of people
b) e.g. Ubuntu still comes with the old version
c) I am a bit unsure about the whole situation since there also still
   exist the sourceforge version, and I did not see any clear indication
   that it was dropped, so it seems a bit like a version chaos
d) it seems there is no SVN repository for the newest version, only git,
   which makes it a bit hard to integrate and I do not want to _only_
   support an external version, for that I consider it too important.
