That does not work with dash, which converts \n to newline by default,
printf seems like the only portable way to do it.
In addition you can get rid of a lot of \ by using ' instead of " for
TITLE (you could do the same for NEW_REVISION if you make svn_revision
and extra defines as well, but that might be pointlessly complex).
