  I additionally need the attached patch to get e.g. ao alsa up and
running again. This makes me wonder how this all worked in the first
place.

  Unfortunately I am short on time. Need to go to the super market
right now. I will investigate more later if I get the time. If the
problem is real and not only my local mess up, it would be good if
someone would beat me to fixing it.
