It's the Question that drives us, G?bor L?n?rt :

What about a fallback method? During compile, include codecs.conf and if
mplayer can't find codecs.conf anywhere, use the built-in. (anyone remembers
old method?;)

Or include default method only for MPEG1/2, DivX playing.
