[Mplayer-dev-eng] old binutils problem

Hi,

MPlayer's ./configure say:

Checking version of gcc ... 2.95.2, ok
GL includes not found!
Checking assembler (as) ... 2.11.90.0.8, ok

but then it uses gcc to compile .s files, and gcc calls the old
(2.9.1) as. this way our as version detection fails...

is there any method to check 'as' version through gcc?
