I just got newest binutils from cvs and mplayer compiles perfectly! mp3lib gives no warning at all (when compiling that dir without omit-frame-pointer)

I was not saying your distribution was the problem, what I /was/ saying that there is Debian stable, testing, and unstable, so when using Debian unstable things use to screw up because it's still highly experimental. 

Maybe it has a buggy release of binutils in it? If you seriously think the linker is the problem, get a newer version.

You decide... it was to look up your problem (maybe you omitted other warnings/errors) and maybe to be able to reproduce it.
