Use the mjpegtools (mjpeg.sourceforge.net).  They do an awesome job of
creating MPEG (including VCD and DVD if you're into that).  And the
YUV4MPEG output plugin of mplayer lets you feed an file mplayer can play
into the mjpegtools for conversion.
