there is no CVS subdir on teh cvs server. it's on the client side.
and yes, if you have this in libavcodec/CVS/Root for example:
:ext:arpi_esp at cvs.ffmpeg.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/ffmpeg
then it will use the ffmpeg server... this happens when teh user copy
the libavcodec dir from ffmpeg checkout, next time a single cvs update
will update mplayer and libavcodec at the same time.

stop this flame!
cvs users can cut'n'paste that 2 lines from REAME to checkout source.
it have to be done only once. non-cvs users (newbies) never had to do this.
i don't know why is it a so-big-problem.
writting a script containing that 2 lines is a silly idea, as the text
explaining where i steh script and how to run it will be longer than 2
lines... and having executable files in cvs is also problematic (file mode
is not correctly stored, and handled buy older cvs client version)
we've already spent hundreds of lines discussing this very unimportant topic
instead of doing soem usefull stuff
