If you can live without offscreen pixmaps, you should be able to prevent
it by inserting 'Option "XaaNoOffscreenPixmaps"' into the screen
section of your /etc/X11/XF86Config.

Yes, that might be a good idea, I have attached a corresponding patch
and will commit it if no one objects.
