[MPlayer-dev-eng] --enable-static broken under OS X ?

I find this very hard to believe.  Is there really no -static flag to
gcc on OS X?  Maybe it has a different name for some dumb reason?  I
don't understand what kind of compiler supports those static archives
but won't choose them unless explicitly listed as a full path.
