Right. I'm now on a 8bpp X, and I get:

VO: [xvidix] 160x112 => 160x120 Planar YV12
Sorry, this (8) color depth is not supported
X11 error: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)

MPlayer interrupted by signal 6 in module: init_video_codec
- MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen. It can be a bug in the MPlay...

So now I no longer get a pink screen, but I can't see the video, either.
Is it supposed to be that way (i.e. 8bpp is not supposed to work any more)
I'll try 24bpp now
