There is some legal mumbo jumbo attached, I'm reproducing it here just
in case. If nobody objects I will sign it despite all the legal
hoopla that we have been going through lately.

Permission for MPlayer

Dear program author,

The German computer magazine c't will publish a special issue
(subject: pda) which includes a CD ROM with corresponding software
(publishing date: first quarter 2003). Your software "MPlayer" has
been pre-selected to be put an this CD ROM.

To put your software on the CD we need your consent as soon as
possible, since the deadline is imminent. To be able to include your
software we need your consent until the 03/09/03 at the latest.

Where possible, the programs we review are to be copied onto CD the
way they are available on the Internet (ZIP, self-extracting EXE
etc). There are, however, several exceptions: If necessary, we will
shorten archive names to comply with the ISO-9660 8.3 format. Packages
comprising more than two archives will be combined into one
higher-level archive. MacOS archives compressed with StuffIt and
subsequently encoded in BinHex (hqx) will be decoded to save space.

We distribute your software at no cost to you. To avoid legal
problems, we hereby ask you to grant us your permission to do
so. Please fill out the form on this page and click the "Yes" and the
"OK" Button at the bottom of this page.

In view of the rising number of caution cases and lawsuits in the
computer industry we would like to eliminate any legal problems in
advance. Things you must tell us about if there is only the slightest
notion of a possible infringement can mainly be found in the following
areas:

# copyright (e.g. copyright-protected program source codes, texts,
# images, sounds, videos) patent rights (e.g. GIF decompression or
# other LZW routines without permission from Unisys, PhotoMosaics
# using R. Silvers' algorithm) child and youth protection
# (e.g. indexed games or pornographic material) protection of patterns
# and designs (e.g. using fonts without manufacturer's consent)
# protection of trademarks (e.g. using the name 'Explorer' without
# permission from Microsoft)

We would like to point these legal restrictions out to you in your own
interest. The moment you distribute your software (for example through
the Internet) you can be held liable for infringements of this
kind. This also applies to GNU freeware. May we, therefore, also ask
for your confirmation if your software is freely distributable under
the terms of the GPL. If several authors contributed to your software,
the signature of one of them will be sufficient.

We are aware that you cannot exclude each and every possible legal
implication. In the attached form, we therefore only ask for your
confirmation to your best knowledge and belief. Should you have any
doubts, we can try to help you clarify the matter.

If there are any questions, please contact Erich Kramer

Thank you in advance for your understanding and co-operation.

Best Regards

Sincerely

Your c't team

P.S.: Independently from this letter of consent, please keep us
informed about any major future versions of your software.

Permission

I entitle Heinz Heise publishers, Hannover/Germany to distribute
copies of the said software on CD ROMs of c't magazine (shareware only
in unregistered versions).

I confirm that I own the rights required to give this
consent. Distributing unregistered versions of the said program does
not incur any license fees to myself or to third parties (for example
for program code, algorithms, images, sounds or texts used).

I declare to my best knowledge and belief: The said software and its
intended form of distribution do not infringe upon laws concerning
copyright, patent law, child and youth protection, the protection of
patterns and designs or the protection of trademarks. Also I am not
aware of any assumptions concerning such breach.

To my best knowledge and belief the said software does not contain any
hidden functions for automatically duplicating program parts
('viruses') or for deleting or spying out data ('Trojan horses'). I am
aware that I can be held liable for damages should this information be
incorrect.
