Read my post on -users!!!

Storing software version (which includes the exact cvs checkout time
of the user's mplayer!!) is a serious leak of private information,
which could in theory be used to track down the person who released a
file which _very_ powerful people happen not to like, by means of the
mphq cvs access logs...
