Oops, forgot to mention - the libdha patch is not strictly necessary for 
the sis_vid VIDIX driver to work... afaik ONLY the SiS 740 needed it 
(though there may be others, of course...)

Probably a good test to see if your SiS chipset requires the patch:

scanpci -2 -V 3   [-2 uses "old" scanpci method]

on my SiS 650:

PCI: Probing config type using method 2
PCI: Config type is 1
...

on my SiS 740:

PCI: Probing config type using method 2
PCI: No PCI bus found or probed for
...
