instead of messing with version numbers, s1 should separate some sample
source which reproduce the bug, and try to compile that sample in
./configure, with the selected compiler optim flags.

i saw faad ICE report from gcc 3.3 on suse, but read sucess stories from
various 3.2.x users. it depends on compiler patches (redhat, suse likes to
use not-yet-released gcc, with unofficial patches applied) and selected
optimization flags (esp. cpu).
