This is normal behaviour with vidix. Remember, it writes directly into
the graphic cards memory surpassing everything else. Thus it will clash
with any other graphic system running. 
mga_vid which does something similar has an module option to leave some
bytes at the top of the memory free as Xf86 stores there font
information and the background image. I dunno whether vidix has a
similar switch (couldnt find it in the manpage)
