Even though this patch seems "useless" today, I'd just like to
acknoledge the fact that I do have a AMD-64 box on hand, on which I
can experiment patches.

by Aurelien (the guy who ported MPlayer to AMD-64, AFAIK), the cpu
detection code needs some work to perfectly work on AMD-64
(cpudetect.c): SSE is disabled on theses systems, even though it is
supported by the processor in 64bits mode.
...but other than that, the port does work and features similar speed.
