Well,
  For realtime one needs a # account on the machine that runs mplayer.
You can already set nice -5, simply by running mplayer under nice. Pay
attention, that if you use Xv, you should also nice/make RT your X
server, since it is also involved in the process. In order to get best
performances, use xvidix (or cvidix for cool text console). It will be
interesting to do mlock on the cache, if you want to add it. It should
be fairly easy to seperate my realtime patch from the rest of the
stuff in my tree. Have a look at the patch I have sent.....
