This doesnt justify adding workarounds in mplayer just because
gcc is broken. If gcc is broken, then gcc should be fixed.
I really hate this BSD attitude to not touch any software that
comes from linux or has any connections to GNU.
Sorry, but we live in one OSS world, if we dont work together 
and keep on fighting against each other we will just screw up
the whole movement and end up using propreatary software again.

I can understand that people around BSD dont like gnu because of
gpl which is only one way compatible with bsd style licenses,
but it would be better to educate people why gpl is bad instead of
ignoring the issue.

Try to run mplayer on a borderline box, ie one that is just as
fast as needed to play a video. You will notice that 1% of speed
change can make the video unwatchable.

Beside, i heard a lot of reports that mplayer is slower on
*bsd than on linux (on the same hw), though i dont know whether 
it's still true and what the reason was/is.
